Presented in this BLOG are some movie songs composed in the same RAGA, which will help getting an idea of how a raga sounds. It is aimed at providing an introduction to CARNATIC MUSIC.
Recently my father asked me to identify the raaga of two songs from Pathala Bairavi: (1) ennadhAn vun premaiyo and (2) amaidhi illadhen manamae. He mentioned that the first one is Baageswari, but was not sure about the second. I thought about it for a while and from its similarity to "kaadal yaathiraiku ... " and "vaarayo vennilave ... " suggested abheri as the likely raaga. Your posting seems to confirm this guess.
Anyway, this is one of the great songs of TFM and probably the best of ALR (along with "engirundhaalum vaazhga ... ").
yes ravi, amaidhi illadhen maname is in abheri but with a tinge of sadness, maybe due to the usage of chinna 'dha' a little. Originally abheri is supposed to be a janya of natabhairavi with chinna dha. but after T's immortal nagumomu periya dha has become the norm.
and AL Raghavan is a great substitute for ghantsala range apart from his very good songs for Nagesh.
Thanks for the lovely post. Ghantasala always used this raga (or bheemplas?) in his music. I remember two songs: one from Mayabazar (Unakkaagave Naan uyir vaazhvene) and the other is from Lavakusa (......knneerai sinda kaaranam yen amma).Perhaps he loved this raga!
